Our Mission

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:18-20

At H2O, our aim is to be a church that knows Jesus Christ and makes Him known to others, pursuing lives that glorify God, trusting and obeying Him, and practically loving our neighbors in word and in action.

From the beginning, H2O has been a church that desires to raise up leaders and pour into the next believer, the next worshipper, the next generation—so that God’s name will be praised forever. Our church is intentionally located in Columbus, Ohio, home of THE Ohio State University because we believe that the college campus is one of the most strategic mission fields in the world and we have made it our goal to reach these students.

Believing that the local church is God’s way to impact a community, we strive to make disciples of Jesus Christ who are equipped and prepared to influence their families, workplaces, and the entire city of Columbus.  Likewise, we hope to send missionaries out into the whole world, into every walk of life and every nation, and to plant new churches both regionally and globally.  Specifically, we have a clear commitment to planting new churches that share our passion to specifically reach college students with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our Core Values

We are a local church body committed to the New Testament emphasis of living life together, as we pursue the values that we see in the book of Acts. Orienting around the Gospel, we hope to live out our call as a community in these ways.

We value an emphasis on the glorious grace of God, as the greatest expression of his love for us, displayed through the life, death, and resurrection of Christ, as the source and key to living the abundant life that Jesus promised. As a community we begin with this grace, continue in it, and strive to aggressively model it to one another and the world around us. This grace frees us to walk in authenticity and security as followers of Christ, as well as freely sharing our lives with one another. We seek to love as God has loved us. [Ephesians 2:8-9]

We orient our community around a lifestyle of thanksgiving, prayer and heartfelt praise, as we believe that God is worthy of our wholehearted love and undivided worship. This involves offering every part of our lives as living sacrifice to God, including our time, money, possessions and relationships, devoting them to His honor, as we follow Him as Lord. [John 4:23-24]

We eagerly expect God to transform our lives, bringing healing, setting us free from habits of sin and conforming us to the life and image of Christ as we learn to walk in dependence on the Holy Spirit. We value knowing and obeying God’s Word as a lifestyle, in order to equip and be equipped for works of service, as well as being transformed by the renewing of our minds. We build deeply into one another, practicing discipleship and multiplication as a lifestyle modeled for us by Christ. [2 Peter 1:5-7]

We strive to nurture an attitude of humility as we set aside selfish ambition and adopt the mindset of Christ, who modeled servant leadership to the world. Every member of this community is first and foremost a servant of Christ, realizing that each has unique gifting and role to play in our call to serve one another and in the world around us. [Matthew 20:26-28]

We desire to follow in Christ’s footsteps as He came to seek and save the lost. We value authentic connection with those that don’t know Christ, proclaiming the good news of Christ, in order to participate in the Holy Spirit’s work of reconciliation through sharing the gospel with those around us. We hope to participate in God’s work of redemption, as He heals and restores individuals, families and communities. We value maintaining a global focus as we work to fulfill the Great Commission, continuing to remember the poor and suffering, as we minister to both physical and spiritual needs. [Matthew 28:18-20]

Knowing that faith honors God, we hope to be a community marked by our trust in God and His Word. We value faith-filled prayer, believing that God faithfully answers prayer with love and power in our lives and in the lives of those whom we are ministering to and loving. We shamelessly believe that God can use the weak and broken things of this world to bring redemption and radical transformation. [2 Corinthians 5:7]

Our Story

God has brought a handful of people together with a common vision. We come from different backgrounds, have different stories, with a wide range of gifts, personalities and interests. In 2008, a team was sent from the University of Michigan to Columbus to plant a campus church at Ohio State (because God has a sense of humor).  The dream was to see God raise up a community of students that would fall in love with the Gospel and catch a vision to impact their the campus with the love of Christ. God has exceeded any expectations of what might happen. Learn more about our story at the link below!

H2O’s Partnerships

Collegiate Church Network

Collegiate Church Network plants and grows collegiate churches devoted to the Great Commission. Through bold proclamation of the gospel, intensive leadership development, and focused church planting, we’re building a network of churches that will greatly influence this country and the world for Jesus Christ.

H2O Church Network

The H2O Church Network is a collection of college churches that seek to bring the timeless message of Christ to the University setting. We are passionate about sharing the hope of Jesus in an environment where Christianity is stereotypically opposed or forgotten. Our desire is not to provide another campus social group, but a place where students can experience a deeper community of believers seeking to live out their faith through discussion groups, Bible studies, service projects, Sunday services, mission trips, and more.

Reliant Mission

Reliant partners with missional churches and Gospel-centered nonprofits to mobilize support-based missionaries for the Great Commission. We are a mission agency. We serve as a hub between local churches, missionaries, and the generous donors who support the work.
